HAPPENINGS - LOTS TO LOOK FORWARD TO
Well, I didn’t want to take the spotlight from Bruce's MU, and there have not been a lot of happenings around the Hound Pound lately which is why there hasn’t been a new post for a while. I will try to update more frequently. Jeff has already started training hard for 2011 (even did a wod at the campground last weekend), and I’m still having fun riding Tommy and doing the odd .com and outdoor group wods. I’m going to try settle into some sort of program/structure in September - kind of looking for something new…

I also want to take this time to mention some upcoming Hound Pound events and news for August and September.

August 28
HP PARTY! Yes. The official HP warming party. Save the date and stay tuned for the evite.
Starting September
Hound Pound will be part the local Calgary “Dawgs” Sunday competitions and workouts which means Hound Pound will one of the many host fitness facilities around the city.
September 1
Announcement of the August Hound Pound T-shirt winner. Bill – yours is in the works!
September 10
JEFFF’s B-day. Gluten free cake is in the works.
September 25
The first OPT Big DAWG challenge for 2011. Hound Pound athletes are already training (I have a hunch it will be FGB again…shhh). This will be a virtual challenge, so drop by the HP to compete – we’ll count your reps, make sure you’re legit, and video your efforts.
September 29
Lucy’s B-day. 10 year’s young. She’d like her teeth cleaned and lumps removed – donations welcome.

WOW exciting stuff. Wash that down with this delicious shake recipe from the Coup. I’m not really a shake kind of gal, but I just love this one.

"INDIAN BANANA SPICE SMOOTHIE"
*recipe is per glass
1 heaping tbsp almond butter
1/2 cup almond milk
1 Date (pitted)
1/2 cup coconut milk

3/4 banana (frozen, if possible)
4 Ice cubes
1 pinch of each of the following:

 - ginger power
 - black pepper
 - star anise powder
 - clove powder
 - nutmeg powder
2 big pinches of the following:
 - cinnimon
 - caramon powder

Then Blend and Drink. Yum!!

* Notes:
1) I've yet to follow a recipe as is, and this is no exception, however in this case my deviation was quite small. I added one scoop of chocolate protein power to make this a balanced shake and to add some chocolatey goodness. I definitely recommend adding this.
2) A pinch of all those ingredients is quite time consuming, so I also recommend figuring out the measured amount of all the spices that go into one shake (I think it was about one tsp, and then mixing up a big batch of the spice combo. This way when you go to make your shake your spices are ready to roll, just need to add a tbs (or whatever) of the pre-mixed spices.

Enjoy your drink. Make sure to post comments about the upcoming events and if you like the shake.
