5 PEAKS RE-CAP

A TRAIL RACE TO THE DORITOS AND OREOS...

I apologize for this rather late post about last Saturday’s wod/event – the 5 Peaks Canmore race. It was a beautiful, blue sky day in Canmore and a great morning for a 7KM trail run. Hound Pound and Sweats in the City athletes represented well with some great times and finishes. Great job to everyone that participated! The 7 KM run consisted of both single and double track trails, slightly technical, but fun, with breathtaking mountain views. There were over 570 participants running their way to the finish line and a buffet table of bagels and cream cheese, cookies, Doritos, pretzels and fruit...Does anyone else think there is anything weird about this? Hello protein? Cookies and chips…what? Okay, I get the bagel thing with the runners - that's just what they do. They “carb” up on whole wheat grains, granola and oatmeal, but who ever thought it would be a good idea to have chips and cookies post run? This seemed so bizarre to me, but there were hundreds of people in line to fill a plate, and many did not pass up on the chips and cookies. To each their own, I guess. I just think that the organizers of these races should take the event a step further and promote healthy eating and proper post workout nutrition. Maybe I’ll write a letter. I’ll let you know what comes of this...
